Video Project Tips and Tricks

  1. Try to tell a story that has a beginning, middle and end.
  2. Get multiple camera angles and viewpoints by moving around. Experiment by shooting from above (birds eye view) or from below. Focus on the subject by filming up close or shoot far away to
 capture the entire scene.
  3. Make sure that you have enough light. Light can also be used to capture the mood of your story.
  4. It is important to keep your camera steady. Use a tripod to shakiness a minimum. Too much waviness will make it hard for people to watch your film.
  5. Begin recording a few seconds earlier to make sure that you capture everything that is being said and done. Remember that you can always edit the footage later.
  6. Take short clips of details related to the main story. This will help your viewer to have a better overall understanding of what’s going on in your movie.
  7. While filming, stop and play back part of your clips to check the sound quality. Make sure you can hear people talking and that there isn’t too much background noise.
  8. After importing your footage to your computer always remember to back up your files to an external HD.
